Lenie has two children and also looks after her nephew, who is an orphan. She and her husband struggled to make a living from their small farm until Lenie joined the MicroLoan Foundation in Malawi. She began selling vegetables and eventually saved enough to buy a bicycle. She now runs a bicycle taxi business, employing another person to ride the bike whilst she cooks and sells fritters as a sideline.
Since taking their first loan, Lenie and her husband have been able to build their own house and buy goats. They now plan to send all their children to secondary school.
